Use ZeroFi to test moving Monero into an Ethereum-style wallet, after checking the destination network and return path. As of 20 October 2026, its public bridge shows Monero as the source and Ethereum Sepolia as the destination. Sepolia is a test network, so this route does not put XMR into a live Ethereum DeFi position.
The distinction matters because the Monero you send is real XMR. The zXMR you receive is on Sepolia. Check both sides of the route before you send anything.
What Is ZeroFi?
ZeroFi is a cross-chain bridge: it takes an asset on one network and issues a matching token on another. Its current public route takes Monero’s XMR and issues zXMR on Sepolia. A wrapped token such as zXMR represents a claim on the XMR held by the bridge; it is not XMR sitting in your Monero wallet.
The aim is to let assets such as Monero and Bitcoin work in decentralized finance, or DeFi. DeFi apps can let people trade, lend, or provide funds to a trading pool without a conventional account provider. A future ZeroFi zBTC route would apply the wrapped-token idea to Bitcoin, but a token name alone does not mean that route is available.
For an occasional user, the network label decides what the token can do. An app on Ethereum mainnet cannot use a token held on Sepolia simply because both use Ethereum-style addresses. Confirm the bridge’s destination and the app’s network before planning any deposit.
How Does a Deposit Become zXMR?
A deposit becomes zXMR after the bridge sees enough Monero confirmations and records the matching token on Sepolia. A confirmation means your payment has been included in a Monero block. The public bridge currently shows a 0.01 XMR minimum and credits deposits after 10 confirmations.
Start with a Monero wallet holding spendable XMR and an Ethereum-compatible wallet set to Sepolia. Enter the amount and the receiving wallet address, then review the bridge’s quoted fee and expected zXMR. Send XMR only to the deposit address generated for that request.
Say you send 0.02 XMR. Your Monero wallet may mark it sent before the bridge has counted all 10 confirmations, which can take around 20 minutes after the payment enters a block. The bridge’s validator nodes then record the deposit and arrange the mint, meaning the creation of zXMR in the receiving wallet.
Those nodes also control the deposited XMR together through threshold custody. In plain words, moving the held XMR requires the required group of nodes to agree. This is why a wrapped balance depends on the bridge’s custody and redemption process, even though the token appears in your own wallet.
What Can You Do With the Wrapped Token?
You can use zXMR only where an app accepts its exact token on its exact network. ZeroFi zXMR appears in your Ethereum-compatible wallet on the destination network. ZeroFi gives you a wrapped balance you can send to a compatible app. Check the app’s network and token contract before approving it to spend that balance.
On a live supported network, a wrapped asset could be traded or supplied to a lending app. That use depends on an app supporting the token and having enough liquidity, meaning enough funds available for the trade. A token that exists in your wallet is not automatically useful in every DeFi app.
For the current Sepolia route, think of the result as a bridge test. You can check whether the deposit arrives, whether your wallet displays zXMR, and whether you can complete a withdrawal. You cannot use Sepolia zXMR as though it were a live Ethereum mainnet asset.
What Does a Round Trip Cost?
A round trip can cost a Monero network fee, any bridge fee shown in the quote, and transaction fees on the destination network. On Ethereum-style networks, those transaction fees are called gas. You need the network’s gas token in your wallet when you move or burn zXMR.
Compare the amount sent with the amount quoted for receipt. For example, if a 0.02 XMR deposit showed an illustrative 0.001 XMR bridge fee, the quoted output would be 0.019 zXMR before any later costs. Use the displayed quote, since fees and limits can change.
Allow time as well as money. Ten Monero confirmations are one stage; node processing and the destination transaction can add to the wait. If you plan to use an app and then redeem, include its transaction fees and any trading costs in your total.
How Do You Redeem It for Native XMR?
To redeem, request a withdrawal to a Monero address you control and burn the required zXMR. Burning removes the wrapped tokens from circulation. The bridge then uses its held XMR to pay the Monero address, subject to the withdrawal terms shown at that time.
Keep enough Sepolia gas to submit the burn, and check the Monero address before confirming. An Ethereum address cannot receive native XMR. If a deposit or withdrawal stays pending, check its request status and confirmations before trying again; a second transfer could create a separate request.
Before a larger use, complete a small deposit and withdrawal on the route you intend to use. ZeroFi’s present Sepolia route lets you test that full sequence, while a live DeFi plan requires a supported live destination and an app that accepts its token. The question to ask yourself before acting is: can I use and redeem this exact token on the network the bridge will send it to?
